I have been wanting to go here for 30 years. Finally went with my son. It was setup in 1516 by Portugese when they saw a light in the middle of a forest(!!!) clearing.

ATM facility is now available in Yelagiri (but better to carry cash still)
No petrol bunk

Aircel mobile signal was strong
Airtel Blackberry worked
(Le Auroville or Aura Valley is probably a good place too from what I have seen , but haven't stayed there. A bit far away and need your own transport to get there)
Things we saw and did(Some pics of these below)
Nature park - Excellent place , well maintained
Musical fountain - inside nature park - 7 PM - 730 PM show - good for the first time
Trekking - I did only in my dreams
Eating jackfruit
