Most people have seen the Brihadeeswara Thanjavur Temple. This temple about 60 kms off Kumbakonam near Jayamkondam is a very similar, well maintained and huge! The shadow never falls on the ground. Here are a few pics. It was built by Rajendra Cholan (son of Rajaraja Chholan)
It is maintained by Archeological survey of India and hence this is very well kept. It is also a UNESCO monument.
Being outside the towns it is not much visited , but if you have a day in Kumbakonam, please do make it a point to visit
